Chocolate Fudge Cake

Cake Ingredients
3 squares baking chocolate
2 1/4 cups sifted self-rising flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
2 1/4 cups packed light brown sugar
3 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup sour cream
1 cup boiling water

Frosting Ingredients
4 squares bakers chocolate
1/2 cup butter
1 lb. powdered sugar
1/2 cup milk
2 teaspoons vanilla

Cake Instructions

  1. Melt chocolate in a double boiler, cool.
  2. Grease & flour 2 9x1.5 inch round cake pans.
  3. Siift flour, baking soda and salt together.
  4. Cream butter, brown sugar, and eggs. Add vanilla & cooled chocolate.
  5. Stir dry ingredients alternately with sour cream, beating well with a wooden spoon. Add hot water and pour into pans.
  6. Bake at 350 for 35 minutes; cool for 10 minutes in pans, then cool on a rack.

Frosting Instructions

  1. Melt chocolate & butter in double boiler.
  2. Combine sugar, milk and vanilla, stir until smooth and add chocolate.
  3. Set bowl in ice water, beat until thick.
